They are 21 new directors and managers to obtain their certificate after completing a training program to learn how to become spiritual directors. The certificate ceremony was held on 18 February 2017 at Hekima University College.
It was around 8.30 am that the Ceremony of Certificate Ceremony began with a Mass presided by Fr Peter Knox, SJ, Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Hekima College. Before the certificates were handed out by Fr. Elias Omondi, SJ, acting Principal of Hekima, participants shared their experience and the qualities and skills acquired during the program.
For Father John Ghansah, SJ Rector of Hekima and one of the trainers at this program, "We need these people for deep evangelism". Fr. Ghansah, SJ has not failed to appropriate his words of Pope Francis, who affirms that "more than ever, we need men and women who, from their experience of accompaniment, know the way To proceed with prudence, the ability to understand, the art of waiting, the docility to the Spirit, to protect together the sheep that confide in us, wolves who try to disperse the flock. (Evangelii Gaudium, 171)
For Deogratia Fikiri, SJ, a Jesuit who participated in this program as a student, this program of spiritual directors enabled him, among other things, to master how to "bring souls to the Creator and know how to give an Ignatian retreat". According to him, besides being a Jesuit, this program also allows him to acquire certain "skills" that reinforce the formation and vocation in the Society of Jesus. The Jesuit Fikiri invites all persons (lay people, priests, religious etc.) to participate in this program of spiritual directors in order to avoid "abuses" which sometimes occur due to of the lack of training in the field.
